History

The estate of Semalia (also known as Semlia or Semliya) was granted to Maharaj Daulat Singh, youngest son of Raja Jai Singh, 1st Raja Saheb of Sailana. It was situated about 34km east of Sailan. The tanka levied on the estate was about Rs 6,001. The Jagirdar pays all cesses and renders service to the Darbar in common with all the other jagirdars.

  • Shriman Maharaj Shri CHATTAR SINGHJI Sahib, 8th Thakur Saheb of Semalia 1888/-, born , educated at Daly College, Indore (1st Batch), he succeeded to Semlia on his brothers adoption to Sailana in 1888; the State granted him the personal right to exercise the powers of an Honorary Magistrate, 2nd Class, within the limits of his jagir; he made several attempts at securing recognition as an independent ruler from the British authorities, who refused all such requests; he was the recipient of the Delhi Durbar Silver Medal (1911), married and had issue, three sons and three daughters.
