There are two claims to the Throne of Sirmur.

1^st Claim:

Maharaja Udai Prakash Ji (son of Maharajkumari Nalini Devi), who was adopted on 23^rd September 1965 by his maternal grandmother, HH Shri Maharani Durga Kumari Deviji Sahiba after the death of her husband Lt. HH Maharaja RAJENDRA PRAKASH Bahadur. He subsequently assumed the headship of the Royal House of Sirmur and the title of Maharaja of Sirmur, but this never received a sanction or recognition from the Government of India along with a denial to Privey Purse. He died on 23^rd February 2023.

2^nd Claim:

The biradari (brotherhood) of Bhati Sardars of Simur never accepted Udai Prakash ji as the Maharaja of Sirmur. On 17^th March 2013, Bhati Sardars of Sirmur collectively had a meeting with Rajmata Sahiba Padmini Devi of Jaipur at City Palace Jaipur to request her to place Rajkumar Laksh Raj, son of Maharajkumari Diya Kumari of Jaipur and grandson of HH Maharani Saheba Padmini Devi to the Throne of Sirmur.

Maharaja Laksh Raj Prakash Bahadur, born 14^th May 2004; younger son of Maharaj Narendra Singh (Thikana Kothara of Shivad), by his wife, Maharajkumari Diya Kumari of Jaipur; educated at the Mayo College, Ajmer, currently enrolled at Millfield School, Somerset. On 17^th March 2013, members of the Sirmur Royal Family and senior nobles chose him as successor to the late Lieut.-Col. H.H. Maharaja Sir Rajendra Prakash Bahadur, who had died in 1964, without male issue of his body and without naming a successor. Ascended the gaddi, at Nahan on 15^th May 2013 at Nahan Palace. Maharaj Ajay Bahadur Singh Ji, Maharaj Abhay Bahadur Singh Ji and Maharaj Alark Singh Ji will act as an informal court of wards to the young Maharaja.

Predecessor state of Nahan founded in 1095 by Soba Rawal, assuming the name and title of Raja Subans Prakash. New capital founded in 1621 and state renamed Sirmur.

Raja FATEH PRAKASH, Raja of Sirmur 1815/1850, born 1809, invested with full powers under a proclamation of General Ochterlony, in 1833 the Kiarda Dun was restored to him on payment of Rs. 50,000, married several wives, including 1^stly to a Rani from Keonthal, married 2^ndly to a Rani from Baghat, married 3^rdly to a Rani from Bilaspur, married 4^thly to a Rani from Mangal state, married 5^thly to a Rani from Kumharsain, and had issues, eight children, as well as further issue by informal liaisons. He died 1850.

- Rajkumar Surjan Singh Sahib (by Rani Bilaspuri), born 1829, he was an associate of the State Council during his nephew's minority. He sent troops from Sirmur to protect the British civilians during the Mutiny of 1857 and was granted a "Khillat" or Robe of Honour by the British for services rendered to the Crown, married 1853, a daughter of Mian Bishen Singh of Kunihar, and had issue, as well as further issue by informal liaisons. He died 1891.
  - Kanwar Ranzore Singh Sahib, born 1865, Rais of Sirmur, largest Jagirdar in Sirmur, Honourary Magistrate, second class and Honourary Munsiff, third class, married 1^stly, a Kumari from Reh (see Nurpur), married 2^ndly, a Kumari from Pathankot, married 3^rdly, 1914, a daughter of Thakur Udai Chand of Beja, and had issue, as well as further issue by informal liaisons.

    - Kunwar Jagat Bahadur Singh, (by 3^rd marriage) born 1915, educated at Nahan and was the owner of a stud farm, a keen polo player, married 4^th May 1944, Raj Kumari Leela Kumari, born 8^th December 1928, daughter of Raja Girija Pratap Singh of Makrai Estate, and had issue, two sons and two daughters. He died 4^th December 1979.
      - Maharaj Ajay Bahadur Singh, born 7^th October 1947 at Nahan, educated at St. Edward's School, Simla and at S.D.B. College, Simla. He did training with the 1^st Sikh Regiment in 1968. He was elected M.L.A. from Nahan constituency in 1985 from the Indian National Congress (I.N.C.) and served one term in the H.P. Vidhan Sabha, married 1^stly, 25^th April 1971, Raj Kumari Usha Kumari, daughter of Raja Jagdish Pratap Shah of Deara, and his wife, Rani Mahendra Kumari Devi, married 2^ndly, Raj Kumari Padmesh Kaur, daughter of Raja Bhalinder Singh of Patiala State, born 2^nd September 1953, died 30^th May 2003 in Simla.

He died 13^th August 1933.

After 1947, he was Comptroller of the Sirmur and Anfield Tea Estates in Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal. He was Hon. Major in the Sirmur State Armed Force and fought in the Middle East during the Second World War of 1939-1945, married in early 1949, Kumari Prabha Devi Shah, daughter of Shahibju Birendra Bikram Shah of Nepal, born 1933, died 30^th April 1964, and had issue, three sons. He died 18^th January 1981 in Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal.

He died 13^th November 1964.
