History

The ancestor of the family was Raja Prithviraj III, the last Hindu ruler of Delhi 1162/1192, some of his descendants settled the Jawas estate in Mewar.

  • Raja JAISINGHDEVJI (alias Patai Rawal), last Raja of Champaner and Raja of Pawagadh 1470/1484, married and had issue. He died 1541 Samvat.

      • Raja Prithvirajsinghj I, his descendants founded Chhota-Udaipur.

  • Rao LIMBAJI, Rao of Jawas 1484/1498, the estate was established by Rao Limba, by defeating the aboriginal bhils in 1484; married and had issue, two sons and at least one daughter. He died .
    • Kunwar Gang Deo, he was granted the estate of Pahada (27 villages with revenue of Rs. 15,238) on his father's death; married and had issue. He died in the battle of Khanwa.

  • Rawat MANAK DEO, Rawat of Jawas 1498/1527, he was granted the estate of Jawas on his father's death; married Rani Puran Kanwar, a daughter of Thakur Jagat Singh of Dharampuri, and had issue. He died in the battle of Khanwa, fighting against Padshah Babar.

  • Rawat SURYA MAL I, Rawat of Jawas 1527/1533, married Rani Ratan Kanwar, daughter of Chawda Thakur Samant Singh of Umasna, and had issue, three sons. He died .

    • Kunwar Surya Mal, he was granted the estate of Chhani. In 1930, Udaipur state, recognized its independence and granted the title of Thakur to Manohar Singh. This estate has a revenue of Rs. 5695.
    • Kunwar Khengar Singh, he was granted the estate of Thana. In 1930, Udaipur state, recognized its independence and granted the title of Thakur to Ranjit Singh. This estate has a revenue of Rs. 5396. Rawat Ratan Singh of Jawas was adopted from this branch (see below).
