History

The ancestor of the family was Thakur Shardul Singh of Jhunjhunu, whose five sons received equal shares of their father's estate and are thus called Thakurs of Panch Pana. Thakur Zorawar Singh, son of Thakur Sardul Singh, had eight sons, the Thakurs of Chowkari, Malsisar, Mandrella, Taien, Gangiyasar, Sultanu and Dabri Dheer.

  • Thakur MEDH SINGH [UMAID SINGH], 1st Thakur of Gangiasar 1745/-, born about 1720, sixth son of Thakur Zorawar Singh ofJhunjhunu and grandson of Raja Shardul Singh of Jhunjhunu; he settled at village Gangiasar in around 1755 AD (BS 1812). He married 1stly, a Yadav lady, daughter of Jagat Singh Yadav of (unknown village), married 2ndly, daughter of Shambhu Singh Mertia of (unknown village), and had issue.

  • Thakur CHATARSAL SINGH, 2nd Thakur of Gangiasar, fl. 1770, he was sent to Khetri after his father's death when plans of a wife of his uncle Hathi Singh to kill him were sensed. So he studied at Khetri and received villages near Bikaner's jungles. He married daughter of Thakur Deep Singh of Jeetpura and had six sons (one died), the thakurs of five lines of Gangiasar, each having his mohar (stamp) and used style of Shri Gopinathji Sevak, their main work was maintaining law and order and extracting minor taxes and customs.

He married two daughters of the Chauhan Rana of Barod or Varjed, and had issue.
          • Thakur RAGHUNATH SINGH, Thakur of Pana Ranjit Singh of Gangiasar (Line 3), Bas Bhagatpura hamlet was of Thakur Raghunath Singh of Pana Ranjit Singh and was later granted to Thakur Hari Singh Ladkhani Niradhanu. He married 1stly into village Odit, married 2ndly into Mertia Rathore family of Chuhi in Marwar, and had issue, one daughter, as well as an adoptive issue, Kunwar Sampat Singh of village Ojut of Pana Bishan Singh in Gangiasar. He died due to poison in his food.

Fought in WWII and was decorated for valor with the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire during the Italy Campaign. His unit was part of the 4th & 5th Indian Division under the British 8th Army. Fought the German Afrika Corps in North Africa. After Germany’s surrender, his battalion was moved to Hong Kong as part of the Combined Occupation Forces. After World War II, he fought in Kashmir and his unit 17 Raj Rif (Sawaiman Guards) received the Battle Honor of Ladi Gali for the attack he led in Uri sector as a Company Major. He has 3 sons. Two of his sons served in the Indian Army and rose to the 3-star General rank. The only Rajput family to have 2 brothers as Lt.Generals and both received PVSM- Indian highest military honor for distinguished service to the nation.
