History
Origin and Foundation
The history of Dujod Thikana is deeply intertwined with the broader history of the Shekhawati region and the expansion of the Shekhawat clan. The rulers of Dujod belong to the Raoji branch of the Shekhawat Rajputs. This branch traces its ancestry back to Rao Tirmal (also known as Rao Tirumal), the ruler of Kasli. Rao Tirmal was a prominent warrior and a grandson of Rao Suja, who was himself the son of Rao Shekha, the legendary founder of the Shekhawat clan.
Following the division of ancestral territories, junior branches of the Kasli ruling family were granted appanages (jagirs) for their sustenance and to fortify the frontiers of the clan's territories. Dujod was established as one of these key sub-estates (Thikanas), serving as a strategic stronghold of the Raoji Shekhawats in the vicinity of Sikar.
Feudal Relations and the Sikar Regency
Over the decades, the political landscape of Shekhawati underwent significant consolidation. The Thikana of Sikar emerged as the preeminent power among the Shekhawat estates in this specific tract. Consequently, smaller estates like Kasli and Dujod fell under the administrative and tributary oversight of the Rao Rajas of Sikar. Despite this administrative subordination, the Thakurs of Dujod maintained considerable local autonomy, managing their land revenue, policing, and local justice independently while contributing feudal levies to Sikar and the parent state of Jaipur during times of military conflict.
This arrangement was recognized during the Mughal era and subsequently formalised under the British Raj through treaties signed between the British East India Company and the Jaipur State. Historically, the area was recognized for its martial contributions, with many youth from Dujod and surrounding villages serving in the state forces of Jaipur and the British Indian Army.
Post-Independence and Modern Era
Following India's independence in 1947, the princely state of Jaipur, along with its subordinate thikanas including Sikar and Dujod, acceded to the Union of India. The process of integration culminated in the formation of the state of Rajasthan. In 1954, the historic feudal structure was formally dismantled with the passage of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, which abolished the jagirdari system. The agricultural lands held by the Thikana were transitionally transferred to the tenant cultivators, and the administrative powers of the Thakurs were replaced by democratic local governance.
Today, Dujod is a recognized historical village located in the Sikar district of Rajasthan. The remnants of its old fort (Garhi) and traditional Havelis stand as architectural testimonies to its glorious Rajput heritage. For further details on the administrative history of the region, researchers can consult the Official Sikar District Portal or explore the detailed lineage in standard references such as the History of Shekhawats.
