History

Origin and Foundation of Maswadia Thikana

The Maswadia Thikana is a historic estate belonging to the Fatehsinghot Rathore clan, a prominent cadet branch of the illustrious Rathore dynasty. The lineage of the Fatehsinghot Rathores is traced back to Rao Fateh Singh, a descendant of the royal house of Marwar (Jodhpur). The Thikana of Maswadia was established in the Vagad region, historically situated within the princely state of Banswara State in southern Rajasthan.

Historical Significance

During the medieval and pre-modern eras, the thikanadars (fief-holders) of Maswadia served the state of Banswara with distinction. Positioned near the borders of Malwa and Gujarat, the Fatehsinghot Rathores of Maswadia played a crucial strategic role in securing the state's boundaries and maintaining law and order in the region. They contributed actively to the military campaigns of the Maharawals of Banswara.

British Era and Administrative Role

Under the British Raj, when Banswara entered into a treaty of subsidiary alliance with the British East India Company, Maswadia continued to enjoy its traditional feudal privileges. The Thikana was recognized as a prominent vassal state under the Banswara durbar, contributing revenue and administrative support under the oversight of the Rajputana Agency.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of Rajputana into the United State of Rajasthan, the feudal jagirdari system was formally abolished by the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, 1952. The descendants of the Maswadia Thikana successfully transitioned into the modern era, preserving their rich cultural heritage and historical legacy while contributing to public service, agriculture, and local development in the region.
