History

Origin and Lineage

The rulers of the Seladi estate belong to the Jodha clan of the Rathore dynasty, tracing their lineage back to Rao Jodha, the 15th-century founder of the Kingdom of Jodhpur. As a prominent offshoot of the Bhadrajun estate, Seladi was established to accommodate the younger branch of the family under Thakur Abhayraj Singh. This division allowed the family to expand its regional influence while maintaining strategic and kinship ties with the parent seat of Bhadrajun.

Feudal Era and British Protection

As a vassal state of Marwar, the Thakurs of Seladi contributed military contingents to the Jodhpur state forces and participated in regional defense. During the late 18th century, the Marwar region faced significant instability due to frequent Maratha incursions and internal power struggles among the Rathore nobility. Security and administrative order were restored following the alliance of 1818, when the Maharaja of Jodhpur signed a treaty of subsidiary alliance with the British East India Company. Under this protective umbrella, Seladi maintained its traditional land rights and judicial autonomy within its local jurisdiction. Further details on the feudal hierarchies of this region can be explored through historical accounts of the Jodhpur State.

Post-Independence Integration

Following India's independence in 1947, the Princely State of Jodhpur merged into the United State of Rajasthan. With the enactment of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act in the early 1950s, the feudal privileges and jagirdari rights of Seladi were formally abolished. The descendants of the ruling family transitioned into the democratic fabric of modern India, preserving their historical legacy and ancestral heritage in the Jalore region of Rajasthan.
