Lakhasar

Origin and Lineage

The rulers of Lakhasar belong to the Tanwar clan of Rajputs, who are direct descendants of the Tomar dynasty. The pivotal figure in their immediate ancestry is Raja Ramshah Tanwar (also known as Raja Ram Singh Tomar) of Gwalior. After losing Gwalior to the Mughal forces, Raja Ramshah and his family took refuge in Mewar. He, along with his three sons—Shalihahan, Bhan, and Pratap—fought heroically and sacrificed their lives for the patriotic cause alongside Maharana Pratap in the historic Battle of Haldighati in 1576.

Following these turbulent times, the descendants of Raja Ramshah dispersed to various parts of Rajputana. Rao Keshavdas, a distinguished descendant of this brave lineage, migrated to the Bikaner region. Recognizing his noble pedigree, valor, and military prowess, the ruling Maharaja of Bikaner granted him the estate of Lakhasar, establishing it as a key Tanwar seat in the state.

Status as a Tazimi Thikana

In the administrative and social hierarchy of Bikaner State, Lakhasar held the esteemed status of a Tazimi Thikana. The honor of Tazim was a highly coveted ceremonial privilege, signifying that the Maharaja of Bikaner would rise from his seat to welcome the Thakur of Lakhasar upon his arrival at the royal court (Darbar). The Thakurs of Lakhasar historically rendered valuable military and administrative services to the Bikaner state during times of war and peace, cementing their position among the premier aristocracy of the region.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of the princely states, Bikaner merged into the democratic state of Rajasthan. With the passage of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, the feudal privileges and land revenue rights of the Thikana were formally phased out. Today, the descendants of the Lakhasar family continue to preserve their historical legacy, ancestral traditions, and deep-rooted connection to the heroic legacy of the Gwalior Tanwars.
