History

The Thikana of Barli, situated in the historic Ajmer-Merwara region of Rajasthan, was a prominent Istimrari estate ruled by the Rathore Rajputs of the Karamsot branch. The Thakurs of Barli trace their lineage as a direct offshoot of the Deolia branch of the Bhinai family, connecting their heritage to the grand lineage of the Royal House of Jodhpur. Established during the medieval period, the estate maintained a pivotal position in the regional administration of Ajmer. Under the British Raj, Barli was recognized as an independent Istimrari estate, with its thakurs enjoying local judicial and revenue-collecting powers, as detailed in historical records of the region such as the Imperial Gazetteer of India. This noble estate continued to exercise its traditional authority and patronize local art and architecture, including the famous Barli fort, until the integration of princely states and the subsequent abolition of the jagirdari system in post-Independence India.
