History

Origin and Foundation

The Thikana of Jaola represents a notable cadet branch of the illustrious Rathore dynasty in the historic region of Rajasthan. The estate was founded by Thakur Sultan Singh, who was the son of Thakur Suraj Mal of the prominent Badanwara Thikana. As a younger branch of the Badanwara ruling house, the family of Jaola established a distinct seat of local influence, maintaining close kinship, cultural ties, and alliances with the parent state of Badanwara and other Rathore principalities in the Ajmer region.

Colonial Era and Administrative Status

During the British Raj, Jaola functioned within the geopolitically vital Ajmer-Merwara province. The estate was governed under the local Istimrari system, wherein the feudal lords or Istimrardars held hereditary land rights and collected revenue, paying a fixed tribute to the British administration. The Thakurs of Jaola maintained local law and order, patronized local temples and community welfare projects, and preserved their traditional martial heritage during this period of colonial administrative transitions.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent accession of the Rajputana states into the Indian Union, the integration of Ajmer-Merwara led to significant administrative reforms. With the formal abolition of the Jagirdari and Zamindari systems in the early 1950s, the ruling family of Jaola relinquished their traditional revenue-collecting rights and administrative privileges. Today, the descendants of the Jaola Thikana continue to reside in the region, actively preserving their ancestral heritage, historical records, and cultural legacy while participating in the democratic and economic progress of modern India.
