Ras

The historic thikana of Ras (Raas), situated in the Jaitaran region of modern-day Rajasthan, was a premier first-class estate belonging to the Udawat sub-clan of the Rathore dynasty within the princely state of Jodhpur (Marwar). The Udawats trace their lineage back to Rao Uda, a grandson of the illustrious founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodha. The jagir of Ras was granted to Thakur Jagram Singh in approximately 1670, establishing a legacy of martial and administrative service to the Marwar state. Governed strictly by the law of primogeniture, Ras was classified as an impartible scheduled jagir, meaning succession was restricted to the eldest son and remained subject to the formal recognition and pleasure of His Highness the Maharaja of Jodhpur. Throughout the Mughal era and subsequent British administrative periods, the Thakurs of Ras maintained their high-ranking status among the nobility of Marwar until the post-independence land reforms abolished the jagirdari system in the mid-20^th century.
