History

Origin and Lineage

The ruling family of Davad Jagir belongs to the Rathore clan of Rajputs, tracing their lineage back to the royal house of Marwar (Jodhpur). In the early 18th century, the Rathore dynasty established its rule over the princely state of Idar under the leadership of Maharaj Anand Singh, a son of Maharaja Ajit Singh of Marwar. Over the subsequent decades, various feeder estates (thikanas) were granted to the younger princes of the ruling family for their maintenance and to secure administrative control over the frontier regions.

The estate of Soor emerged as an influential branch of the Idar state. Maharaj Shri Indar Singh of Soor granted the lands of Narode and subsequently Davad to his younger son, Maharaj Shri Sirdar Singh, thereby establishing the Davad branch of Rathore Rajputs in the Mahi Kantha region.

British Period and Feudal Administration

During the British Raj, Davad was administered as a co-shared or tributary estate under the Mahi Kantha Agency of the Bombay Presidency. The Jagirdars of Davad held internal administrative and revenue-collecting rights within their domain. As vassals of the Idar State, they maintained close ties with the Durbar of Idar and assisted the state in maintaining law and order in the local taluka. The economy of the jagir was primarily agrarian, with the local rulers facilitating agricultural developments and traditional local governance.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947, the Maharaja of Idar signed the Instrument of Accession, resulting in the integration of the Idar State and its subordinate jagirs, including Davad, into the Indian Union. In 1948, the estate was formally merged into the Bombay State. Following the linguistic reorganization of Indian states in 1960, Davad became a part of the Idar taluka within the Sabarkantha district of Gujarat. Today, the descendants of the Davad family remain active in preserving their cultural heritage, ancestral properties, and local historical traditions.
