History

Origin and Foundation

The Parmar (or Panwar) dynasty holds a highly prestigious position in the history of Rajputana, particularly in the Arbuda (Mount Abu) and Chandravati regions. Historically, the Parmars were the ancient rulers of this territory before the rise of the Deora Chauhans of Sirohi. Following the political transition of the region, several branches of the Parmar clan retained significant estates, serving as prominent noble houses under the suzerainty of the Maharaos of Sirohi.

The lineage of Nawa Khera traces its immediate roots to the estate of Varada. Thakur Shri Chain Singhji, a distinguished noble of the Parmar clan, was granted the Jagir of Varada by the reigning Maharao of Sirohi in recognition of his military valor and administrative loyalty. Generations later, Thakur Ram Singhji, a scion of the Varada branch, moved to establish a new seat of power, founding the Thikana of Nawa Khera. Under his stewardship, the estate was developed, and a stronghold was built to secure the region's borders.

The British Era and Feudal Relations

During the 19th century, the geopolitical landscape of the region underwent a major shift. In 1823, the State of Sirohi signed a treaty of protection with the British East India Company, becoming a princely state under the Rajputana Agency (detailed in the Sirohi State on Wikipedia).

During this period of Pax Britannica, the Thikana of Nawa Khera maintained its feudal autonomy. The Thakurs of Nawa Khera continued to pay tribute and render ceremonial allegiance to the Maharao of Sirohi while administering local justice, managing agricultural revenues, and maintaining peace within their boundaries.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947, the princely state of Sirohi, along with its constituent Thikanas including Nawa Khera, underwent integration into the newly formed Republic of India. The state was initially placed under the Bombay Province before being formally merged into the state of Rajasthan in 1950 (as documented in the History of Rajasthan on Wikipedia).

With the passing of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, the traditional jagirdari and feudal privileges were phased out. The descendants of the Nawa Khera Thikana successfully transitioned into public service, agriculture, and various private enterprises, while continuing to preserve the historical heritage, temples, and cultural legacies of the Parmar clan in the Sirohi region.
