History

Origin and Genealogy of the Khangarot Kachwahas

Mandha Bheemsingh is one among the 22 Tazmi Thikanas of Khangarot Kachwaha Rajput Kshatriyas of Jaipur state. The Khangarot sub-clan descends from Rao Khangar, a formidable warrior and the grandson of Raja Prithviraj of Amber of the Kachwaha dynasty. Rao Khangar, along with his father Rao Jagmal Kachwaha, won many battles and ruled over Naraina, Jobner, Boraj, Sakhun, Diggi, Tordi, Marwa, Ugriyawas and Kalakh.

Rao Khangar's son Rao Manohardas Ji got gaddi of Jobner, one of the most prominent Tazmi Thikanas of Khangarots. The branch of Khangarots presiding over Mandha Bheemsingh are known as the Manohardasot Khangarots. Rao Manohardas Ji's younger son, Thakur Pratap Singh, got Mandha Thikana in a family partition.

Foundation and Early Administration of Mandha

Thakur Pratap Singh was a very brave, intelligent and generous ruler. He was also a charitable person. According to historical evidences, he distributed a huge amount of land to poor people and Brahmans. In 1646, he gave above 427 bighas of land to purohit ji Shree Haridas of Bhadwa. After him, his elder son Achaldas Ji became the ruler, who also served as one of the brave rulers of his time and brought prosperity to his Thikana and family.

The Battle of Peepal Kheda (1795)

Mandha's Thakur Ishwari Singh was a very brave ruler, and he fought many battles in the late 1790s during the turbulent period of the Jaipur State. In the year 1795, he fought a battle against the Kalyanots of Peepal Kheda in Alwar State along with his Manohardasot Khangarot brother Kunwar Ramnath Singh Ji of Jobner and the forces of Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh of Jaipur State. His younger brother, Sukh Singh Ji of Mandha, was also helping him in this battle. All three Manohardasot brothers—Thakur Ishwari Singh Ji, Thakur Sukh Singh, and Kr. Ramnath Singh of Jobner—got heroic rate (achieved martyrdom) in this battle of Peepal Kheda.

Thakur Bheem Singh and the Naming of the Thikana

Thakur Ishwari Singh Ji's son, Thakur Bheem Singh Ji, was also a very generous, intelligent, and brave ruler. He too fought many battles. In the year 1828, in a battle against the Medtiya Rathores and the Laadkhanis of Ramgarh, he fought bravely and showed a great act of valor. For his bravery in battle, he was awarded with nearby villages and a siropaaw (robe of honor) by the Jaipur Durbar. Due to his valor and good deeds, Mandha Thikana later was renamed after him, and till date, Mandha is called Mandha Bheemsingh.

The Colonial Era and Modern Legacy

Mandha Bheemsingh's Thakurs were very generous, charitable, and brave. Among them was Thakur Vishnu Singh Ji, who had one more extraordinary quality, and that was his profound knowledge about horses. He also opened a very famous stud farm named the Rao Khangar's Stud Farm, which contributed greatly to preserving indigenous equestrian lineages in the region.

Following India's independence and the integration of the princely states, the Thikana of Mandha Bheemsingh merged into the United State of Rajasthan in 1949. With the passing of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act in 1952, the traditional jagirdari administration came to an end. Today, the descendants of this historic house maintain their ancestral legacy and cultural traditions in modern Rajasthan.
