History

Origin and Foundation of Lasani Thikana

Lasani was established as a prominent feudal estate (Thikana) of the Mewar State, belonging to the Chundawat clan of the Sisodia dynasty. The estate was granted to Rawat Shekha Singh, the son of the legendary Rawat Patta (Pratap Singh) of Amet, who laid down his life in the historic third Siege of Chittorgarh in 1567–1568 against the Mughal Emperor Akbar. As a branch of the Patawat Chundawats—descended from Rawat Chunda, the crown prince of Mewar who voluntarily renounced his throne—the Rawats of Lasani held an esteemed position among the second-tier nobles (Solah Umraos or high-ranking jagirdars) of the Udaipur court.

Historical Significance and Military Service

The strategic position of Lasani in the rugged terrain of Rajsamand made it a key military outpost for the defense of Mewar. Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, the chiefs of Lasani actively participated in Mewar's military campaigns, defending the state against both Mughal incursions and later Maratha depredations. Their ancestral ties to the heroic house of Amet commanded immense respect, and the Lasani chiefs consistently provided contingents of cavalry to support the Maharana of Udaipur in times of war. Detailed accounts of their lineage and territorial contributions are documented in historical texts such as the monumental 19th-century history of Mewar, Vir Vinod by Kaviraj Shyamaldas.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947, and the subsequent integration of Mewar into the United State of Rajasthan in 1949, the jagirdari administrative system was officially abolished. The ancestral fort and properties of the Lasani family remain as symbols of their historic heritage. Today, the descendants of the Thikana preserve their rich cultural legacy, contributing to the local community in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan.
