History
The Rajas of Kurri Sudauli are illustrious descendants of the Naihesta branch of the Tilokchandi Bais clan of Rajputs, a dominant ruling lineage that historically held sway over the Baiswara region of Oudh in modern-day Uttar Pradesh. Rooted in the noble ancestry of Raja Tilok Chand, the Naihesta branch established its prominence in the Rae Bareli district through territorial acquisitions and strong agrarian governance. During the Mughal period and the subsequent rule of the Nawabs of Awadh, the family maintained significant autonomy, which was formally recognized by the British administration after the Uprising of 1857 when they were confirmed as Taluqdars of Oudh with sanads (charters). The estate of Kurri Sudauli remained an influential center of local administration and patronage until the post-Independence land reforms and the abolition of the Zamindari system in 1950. Detailed historical references to the estate and its lineage can be explored in the Gazetteer of the Province of Oudh and Sir Roper Lethbridge's biographical chronicle, The Golden Book of India.
