Origin and Foundation of Kalyanpur Thikana

The Kalyanpur Thikana, situated within the historic realm of Mewar, was held by the noble Sisodia Rajput clan. The formal establishment of the estate in its modern form dates back to 1818, a watershed year in Rajputana history when Maharana Bhim Singh of Udaipur signed a treaty of alliance with the British East India Company. In the administrative reorganization that followed to restore stability to the war-torn region, Thakur Madhav Singh was granted the Kalyanpur Thikana, which originally comprised a substantial estate of 40 villages.

The Late 19^th-Century Feudal Settlement

During the latter half of the 19^th century, the relationship between the central Mewar Durbar and its vassal chieftains underwent significant restructuring. The state, influenced by British administrative policies, sought to centralize revenue collection and curtail the autonomous power of regional thikanas. Consequently, in 1880, the ancestral villages of Kalyanpur were resumed by the state. Later, Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur re-issued a charter (sanad) granting 5 core villages back to the Thakur of Kalyanpur, formalizing a smaller but consolidated estate under the Mewar crown. Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of the Mewar State into the United State of Rajasthan, the jagirdari and feudal systems were officially abolished. The administrative and revenue-collecting rights of the Kalyanpur Thikana were phased out under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act. Today, the descendants of the Kalyanpur Sisodias preserve their rich cultural heritage and ancestral legacy as private citizens, contributing to the cultural preservation of the Udaipur region.
