Jogawa

Origin and Foundation

The Thikana of Jogawa represents a prominent cadet branch of the Sindhal branch of the Rathore dynasty. The Sindhal Rathores trace their ancestry to Rao Sindhal, a son of Rao Asthan, who was the second chief of the Rathore clan in Marwar. Over the centuries, the descendants of Rao Sindhal established several influential fiefdoms in the region, including Bhadrajun, Gundoj, Kawla, and Shankhwali. Jogawa was carved out of the parent estate of Kawla as a traditional appanage for Thakur Balram Singh, establishing a distinct feudal lineage under the suzerainty of the Jodhpur State.

Feudal Administration and British Era

During the era of the princely state of Marwar (Jodhpur), Jogawa functioned as an active feudal estate (Thikana). The Thakurs of Jogawa were responsible for maintaining local security, administering justice, collecting land revenues, and providing military contingents to the Maharaja of Jodhpur during times of campaign. With the advent of the British Raj and the signing of treaty alliances by the Jodhpur State, Jogawa transitioned into a stable agrarian estate under the colonial administration of the Rajputana Agency, focusing primarily on local governance, agricultural development, and community welfare.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of the princely states, the estate of Jogawa was merged into the modern state of Rajasthan. The traditional feudal privileges and the jagirdari system were formally abolished under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, 1952. Today, the descendants of the Jogawa Thikana continue to preserve their ancestral fort, family relics, and historical legacy, contributing actively to the socio-cultural fabric of the Pali district in Rajasthan.
