Sujaji Ka Garha

Sujaji Ka Garha, situated in the Banswara district of Rajasthan, is a historic Thikana (feudal estate) held by the Sanchora branch of the Chauhan dynasty. The Sanchora Chauhans trace their lineage back to the royal house of Sanchore, which branched off from the Songara Chauhans of Jalore, renowned in medieval Rajput history. This particular estate was founded by and named after its first Thakur, Surajmal Chauhan (popularly known as Sujaji), who established the fortified settlement (locally referred to as 'Garha' or 'Gada') under the suzerainty of the princely Banswara State. Following the independence of India and the subsequent integration of Rajputana states, the feudal privileges were integrated into the democratic setup. Today, the village continues to preserve its Rajput heritage, being home to around forty families of the Sanchora Chauhan clan who maintain their ancestral traditions.
