History
Origin and History of Sarothia Thikana
Sarothia Thikana is a prominent historic estate belonging to the Bidawat clan of Rathore Rajputs, situated in the modern-day Churu district of Rajasthan. The Bidawat sub-clan traces its noble lineage back to Rao Bida, the younger brother of Rao Bika, who founded the princely state of Bikaner in 1488 AD. As premier nobles of the Bikaner state, the rulers of Sarothia held significant military and administrative responsibilities within the Bidawati territory, serving loyally during the Mughal and British periods to safeguard the regional borders of the state.
Post-Independence and Modern Era
Following India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of the princely states, the Thikana of Sarothia was merged into the democratic state of Rajasthan. The age-old jagirdari revenue system was formally wound down under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act of 1952, transitioning the estate's traditional rulers into democratic civic life. For further historical context on the region and its rulers, you can refer to the history of Bikaner State on Wikipedia as well as the administrative history of the Churu District on Wikipedia.
