Origin and Genealogy of Rodla Thikana
The Thikana of Rodla is a prominent estate belonging to the Sindhal branch of the Rathore dynasty of Marwar. The Sindhal Rathores trace their lineage back to Rao Sindhal, the son of Rao Asthan (the second Rathore ruler of Marwar). Over the centuries, the descendants of Rao Sindhal established major feudal seats in the Jalore and Pali regions of Rajasthan. The Thikana of Rodla was established by Rao Akheraj, the son of Rao Sujaji of Kawla, branching out from the parent house of Kawla to secure local administrative and military influence under the aegis of the Kingdom of Jodhpur.
Historical Role and Association with Marwar
As loyal vassals (Sardars) of the Jodhpur State, the rulers of Rodla played an active role in the regional defense of Marwar during turbulent medieval periods, including conflicts with neighboring powers and campaigns during the Mughal era. Holding land revenue rights and administrative autonomy over their territory, they maintained local order and contributed militarily to the campaigns of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. For broader historical context on the ruling clan, you can visit the Rathore Dynasty on Wikipedia.
Post-Independence and Modern Era
Following India's independence in 1947, Jodhpur State merged into the Union of India, and the democratic state of Rajasthan was formed. With the passing of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act in 1952, the traditional feudal privileges and land rights of the Rodla Thikana were officially abolished. Today, the descendants of the Rodla lineage preserve their historical legacy and ancestral heritage as private citizens in modern India.
