History
Origin and Foundation of Bhadoon Thikana
The history of Bhadoon Thikana is deeply intertwined with the expansion of the Rathore dynasty in Rajputana during the early 17th century. Thakur Bhupat Singhji, a prominent Rathore nobleman, left Jodhpur alongside his brother, Prince Kishan Singh (the founder of the princely state of Kishangarh). While Kishan Singh established the state of Kishangarh in 1609, Thakur Bhupat Singhji was granted a prominent estate (jagir) consisting of six strategic villages: Naraina, Bhadoon, Paldi, Jajota, Pandarwara, and Manpura. Bhadoon was chosen as the seat of this fiefdom, and Thakur Bhupat Singhji became the progenitor of the Bhuptot Rathore clan, a distinct sub-lineage of the Rathores of Marwar.
Feudal Status and the British Period
As premier nobles of the Kishangarh State, the Thakurs of Bhadoon held the prestigious status of Tazimi Sardars. This rank entitled them to special ceremonial honors in the royal Darbar of the Maharaja of Kishangarh. The geographic location of the Bhadoon estate, situated near the borders of the Ajmer province and Jaipur, gave it significant strategic and military importance during the turbulent medieval era.
During the Mughal era, the rulers of Kishangarh and their feudatories maintained close diplomatic ties with the imperial court. Following the decline of the Mughal Empire and the subsequent Maratha incursions in Rajputana, Kishangarh State entered into a treaty of alliance with the British East India Company in 1818. Under the British Raj, Bhadoon maintained its internal autonomy and judicial rights over its jagir lands, contributing to the administrative stability of the region. Detailed records of these administrative structures can be found in historical surveys of the Ajmer-Merwara region.
Post-Independence and Modern Era
With India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of the princely states, Kishangarh State merged into the United State of Rajasthan. Following the passage of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act in 1952, the traditional jagirdari system was formally abolished, and the revenue-collecting rights of the Thikana were transitioned to the democratic state government.
Today, the descendants of the Bhuptot clan of Bhadoon continue to reside in Rajasthan, actively preserving their rich cultural heritage, ancestral fortresses, and local community traditions. They remain highly respected for their historical contributions to the region's heritage and social development.
