History
The Viramdevra Thikana, situated in the historic Marwar region of Rajasthan, represents a prominent seat of the Tanwar (Tomar) clan of Rajputs, who trace their illustrious ancestry back to the legendary Tomar dynasty of Delhi, particularly under Emperor Anangpal Tomar. Following the displacement of the Tomars from Delhi in the late 12th century, branches of the clan migrated southwestward into the semi-arid tracts of Rajputana, eventually establishing strongholds in the Jodhpur and Jaisalmer regions. The estate of Viramdevra was historically held by the descendants of this lineage, closely associated with the heritage of the medieval folk-deity Baba Ramdevji Tanwar and his brother Viramdevji. Over the centuries, the rulers of this Thikana operated as noble vassals under the suzerainty of the Princely State of Jodhpur, actively participating in the region's military defense and administrative affairs while preserving their distinct socio-cultural Tomar identity through to the integration of Rajasthan into independent India.
