History

Vijaypur Thikana, situated in the historic Saurashtra region of Gujarat, represents a notable vassal estate (Thikana) held by the illustrious Gohil Rajput clan, who trace their lineage back to the legendary Suryavanshi Rajputs. Branching out from the premier Gohil states of the region, such as Bhavnagar State or Palitana, the rulers of Vijaypur established their local administrative and agrarian authority, maintaining a loyal tributary relationship with their parent state. During the British Raj, the Thikana operated under the administrative oversight of the Kathiawar Agency (later the Western India States Agency), preserving its traditional socio-political influence and land revenue rights. Following India's independence and the signing of the Instrument of Accession, the estate was integrated into the United State of Kathiawar (Saurashtra) in 1948, eventually becoming a part of the modern Gujarat state. To learn more about the broader lineage of the ruling clan, see the history of the Gohil Dynasty.
