History
The Sanchora Chauhans represent a prominent cadet branch of the Songara Chauhan clan of Jalore, tracing their lineage back to the imperial Chahamana (Chauhan) dynasty of Nadol. Founded in the 12th century when the region of Sanchore (historically known as Satyapura) was granted to Rao Vijaysi, a son of Rao Alhana of Nadol, the clan established a resilient ruling house in the south-western marches of Rajasthan. Over the centuries, the Sanchora branch successfully defended their principality against external incursions before eventually accepting vassalage and dispersing to form influential feudal estates, such as the Vanwasa Thikana, maintaining their aristocratic legacy under the regional suzerainty of the larger Marwar state.
