History

The rulers of Samandsar Thikana belong to the illustrious Parihar (Pratihara) clan of Rajputs, tracing their ancestry back to the imperial Gurjara-Pratihara dynasty which famously ruled from Mandore and Kannauj. Following the expansion of Rathore rule in Rajputana, descendants of this ancient lineage took up prominent administrative and military roles under the Bikaner state. The foundational prominence of the Samandsar estate was established by the legendary Thakur Bela Parihar, whose exceptional bravery and loyal services to the early rulers of Bikaner laid a strong foundation for the Thikana. This legacy reached its zenith during the late 19th and early 20th centuries under Lt Col Thakur Saheb Bakhtawar Singhji. Recognised for his administrative brilliance and military leadership, particularly in connection with the Bikaner state forces, he was awarded the prestigious hereditary honour of Tazim by Maharaja Ganga Singhji in 1902 AD. Thakur Bakhtawar Singhji also served as a trusted confidant to the Maharaja, accompanying him on crucial diplomatic visits to England between 1902 and 1911 AD, which eventually led to the grant of the additional village pattas (fiefs) of Dulrasar and Saldiyawas in 1914 AD. Following India's independence and the abolition of the Jagirdari system, the family transitioned into the modern era, retaining their ancestral heritage while actively participating in the democratic and civic growth of the region.
