History
The history of Rajpura Thikana is deeply intertwined with the martial legacy of the Bhimrajot branch of the Rathore dynasty of Bikaner. The lineage traces back to Rajkumar Bhimraj, the second son of Rao Jetsiji (Jait Singh), the ruler of Bikaner. In 1545 AD, Rajkumar Bhimraj played a monumental role in assisting his elder brother, Rao Kalyanmal, in liberating Bikaner from the occupation of Rao Kumpa, the legendary general of Rao Maldeo of Jodhpur. In recognition of his extraordinary gallantry and strategic success, Bhimraj was bestowed with the Thikana of Bhomsar and honored with the title ‘Gai Bhom Raja Bahdo’ (the Reconqueror of Lost Lands). Later, during the imperial Gujarat campaigns led by Raja Rai Singhji of Bikaner on behalf of the Mughal Empire, Bhimraj's son, Rao Naurang, laid down his life on the battlefield. This ultimate sacrifice led to his descendants being designated as the distinct "Bhimrajot Bika" sub-clan.
The specific estate of Rajpura was established when Maharaja Gaj Singhji of Bikaner granted a dynamic fiefdom of twelve villages to Thakur Himmat Singhji, the son of Thakur Zorawar Singhji of Bhomsar. As premier nobles of the princely state of Bikaner, the rulers of Rajpura held the esteemed status of Umrao. They were accorded the prestigious court distinctions of Dohri Tazim (double ceremonial reception) and Kurab Hath in the Bikaner Royal Darbar, signaling their high administrative and military standing. This noble heritage of chivalry and courtly privilege was preserved by the family through the centuries, enduring until the accession of the princely states into the Indian Union post-independence. For deeper historical context on the administration of the state's nobility, researchers can refer to the historical records archived by the Rajasthan State Archives.
