History

Padala, a prominent Thikana (estate) in the erstwhile princely state of Mewar (Udaipur), was held by the noble Tanwar (Tomar) clan of Rajputs, who trace their illustrious descent from the historic Tomar dynasty of Delhi and later Gwalior. Following the fall of Gwalior and the heroic sacrifice of Raja Ramshah Tanwar and his sons alongside Maharana Pratap at the iconic Battle of Haldighati in 1576, the surviving members of this royal branch were warmly received by the rulers of Mewar and granted prestigious fiefs, including Padala, for their unwavering loyalty and valor. Over the centuries, the rulers of Padala served the Maharanas of Udaipur with distinction in various military campaigns, upholding the martial traditions of the Tomar clan until the estate was integrated into the modern state of Rajasthan following India's independence and the subsequent abolition of the jagirdari system in 1948.
