History

Origin and Foundation

The estate of Netramli was a prominent minor vassal fief (Thikana) belonging to the Kumpawat clan of Rathore Rajputs, specifically the Udaisinhot sub-branch. Located within the erstwhile princely state of Idar State (situated in modern-day Sabarkantha district, Gujarat), the estate was originally granted to Thakur Surajmalsinh. He was the third son of Thakur Sawaisinh and the grandson of Thakur Tejmalsinhji of Ramsinh-ka-Guda in Marwar, establishing a direct lineage link to the parent Rathore house of Marwar (Jodhpur).

British Era and Administrative History

During the British Raj, Idar State and its tributary estates, including Netramli, fell under the administrative oversight of the Mahi Kantha Agency. The Thakurs of Netramli exercised local judicial and revenue powers within their jagir while rendering feudal allegiance and customary tribute to the Maharaja of Idar. The Kumpawat Rathores of Netramli were recognized for their martial traditions and played a key role in safeguarding the region's borders.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947, the ruling Maharaja of Idar signed the Instrument of Accession, leading to the merger of Idar State into the Bombay Province in 1948. With the reorganization of states in 1960, the territories of the erstwhile Netramli Thikana became part of the Sabarkantha district in the state of Gujarat. Today, the descendants of this historic estate continue to maintain their ancestral traditions and local cultural heritage.
