History

Origin and Foundation of Naranpura Thikana

Thikana Naranpura was established in 1860 AD by Thakor Saheb Naransinhji, who migrated from the historic and premier estate of Asop (Asope) in Marwar, Rajasthan. The ruling family of Naranpura belongs to the Kumpawat clan of the Rathore dynasty. The Kumpawats are descendants of Rao Kumpa Mehrajot, the legendary general of Marwar who commanded the Rajput forces and demonstrated exemplary valor during the historic Battle of Giri-Sumel in 1544 against the Afghan Emperor Sher Shah Suri.

Historical Significance and the British Era

As a cadet branch of the premier Asop state, Naranpura preserved the martial traditions and administrative systems characteristic of the Kumpawat Rathores. Established during the high colonial period of the British Raj in 1860, the Thikana maintained its local autonomy, agrarian economy, and feudal authority under the overarching British paramountcy in Western India. The rulers of the Thikana successfully governed their territory by balancing traditional Rajput statecraft with the socio-political demands of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947, the Thikana of Naranpura was integrated into the democratic Union of India. Along with other noble estates and princely states, its feudal privileges, revenue rights, and official recognition of titles were formally phased out with the passage of the 26th Amendment to the Constitution of India in 1971. Today, the descendants of the Naranpura family actively preserve their ancestral heritage, historical archives, and cultural contributions to the region.
