Namudag

The Namudag Zamindari, situated in the historic Palamu region of modern-day Jharkhand, was a prominent estate held by the Suryavanshi Gaur clan of Rajputs, who claim descent from the ancient solar dynasty. Established during the medieval period amidst the migration of Rajput clans into the Chota Nagpur plateau, the rulers of Namudag maintained local autonomy while navigating political relations with regional powers like the Chero dynasty and the Mughal subahdars of Bihar. During the British Raj, the estate was consolidated under the colonial revenue administration, playing a vital role in local agrarian governance in the region. The traditional socio-political influence of the Namudag Zamindari persisted until the post-independence era, when the estate was formally integrated into the Indian Union following the enactment of the Bihar Land Reforms Act of 1950, which brought an end to the proprietary rights of the feudal gentry.
