History

Origin and Foundation

The Thikana of Medi is an estate belonging to the Shaktawat sub-clan of the Sisodia Rajput dynasty of Mewar. The province was granted to Thakur Kishor Singh, who was the son of Rawat Jalim Singh of the prominent Thikana of Semari. As Shaktawats, the rulers of Medi trace their lineage back to Maharaj Shakti Singh, the legendary brother of Maharana Pratap. This lineage placed the rulers of Medi among the elite nobility of the Mewar State, granting them administrative and military responsibilities within the realm.

Historical Legacy and British Period

Throughout its history, the Medi estate maintained strong familial and political ties with its parent estate of Semari and the royal court at Udaipur. The Thakur of Medi, as a loyal vassal of the Maharana, contributed to the defense and administrative stability of the region. During the British Raj, Mewar entered into treaty alliances with the British East India Company, which stabilized the internal boundaries and authority of various Thikanas, including Medi, allowing them to focus on local governance and agricultural development in the historic Mewar region.

Post-Independence Era

Following India's independence in 1947, the princely state of Mewar merged into the United State of Rajasthan. With the promulgation of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act in 1952, the traditional jagirdari and feudal privileges of the Medi Thikana were formally abolished. Today, the descendants of Thakur Kishor Singh continue to reside in Rajasthan, preserving the historical legacy, cultural traditions, and ancestral heritage of the Shaktawat clan.
