History
The Mangalgarh Thikana, located in the present-day Vidisha-Bhopal region of Madhya Pradesh, was an influential estate ruled by the Solanki branch of the Agnikula Rajput clan. Established as a strategic fortress, the thikana played a critical role in regional politics during the transition from Mughal decline to the rise of local principalities in Central India. In the early 18th century, the widow of the late Solanki chief of Mangalgarh enlisted the military services of the mercenary adventurer Dost Mohammad Khan, who would later establish the Bhopal State, to defend her estate against aggressive neighbouring Rajput clans. Following the Rani's death, the political landscape of the estate shifted significantly, marking a major transition in regional hegemony while preserving the noble legacy and genealogical heritage of the Solanki Rajputs in the annals of Central Indian history.
