History
Makawal, situated in the erstwhile princely state of Sirohi, was a prominent vassal estate (Thikana) ruled by the illustrious Deora clan of the Chauhan Rajputs. The Deora Chauhans, who trace their lineage back to Rao Deoraj, established their dominance in the region during the 14th century. As a cadet branch of the ruling house of Sirohi, the Thakur Sahibs of Makawal held vital administrative and military responsibilities, actively defending the state's borders against neighboring powers like Mewar and Marwar, and later adapting to British suzerainty after the 1823 treaty until the Thikana's integration into independent India.
