Mahthapar

Mahthapar, historically associated with the Kankar (Kanhvanshi) clan of Rajputs in the Purvanchal region, holds a distinguished place in the annals of India's struggle for independence. During the historic Quit India Movement of 1942, when the district of Ballia briefly overthrew British colonial authority to establish a parallel government, local leaders like Babu Shri Swami Nath Singh fought valiantly against colonial oppression. Belonging to the traditional Kankar Rajput lineage, his legacy of patriotism and social service remains deeply revered in the region. In 2007, to honor his memory and advance the cause of rural education, his successors established the Shri Swami Nath Singh Surendra Mahavidyalaya, an institution that continues to uplift the socio-cultural and educational landscape of modern Ballia district.
