History
Origin and Foundation
The history of Ladera Thikana is deeply intertwined with the illustrious Kachwaha dynasty of Amber (later Jaipur). The rulers of Ladera belong to the Khangarot sub-clan of the Kachwaha Rajputs, tracing their ancestry back to Rao Khangar Ji, a heroic warrior and grandson of Maharaja Prithviraj Singh I of Amber (who ruled from 1503 to 1527 CE). The Khangarots emerged as one of the most powerful and influential noble clans within the Jaipur State, often holding key military and administrative positions. The branch at Naraina, a prominent Khangarot seat, gave rise to the Ladera line when Rao Saheb Nawal Singh Ji, the enterprising son of MahaRao Saheb Bhakhar Singh Ji of Naraina, was granted the land of Ladera as his independent fief (jagir), thus establishing him as the first Thakur of Ladera.
The Mughal and British Eras
Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, the barons of Ladera, like their Khangarot kinsmen, played active roles in the military campaigns of the Jaipur State. They provided crucial contingent forces to the Maharajas of Jaipur during periods of Mughal alliance and subsequent regional conflicts in Rajputana. With the advent of British suzerainty and the signing of the treaty of alliance between the Jaipur State and the British East India Company in 1818, the Thikana of Ladera transitioned into a stable agrarian estate. Under British supervision, the Thakurs of Ladera focused on local administration, revenue collection, and maintaining civic order within their estate, ensuring the prosperity of the local populace.
Post-Independence and Modern Era
Following India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of princely states, the Jaipur State merged into the United State of Greater Rajasthan. With the passing of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act in 1952, the traditional jagirdari system was formally abolished. Consequently, the administrative and revenue-collecting powers of the Ladera Thikana were transferred to the democratic government. Today, Ladera stands as a historic village in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan, where the descendants of the founding lineage still reside, preserving their ancestral fort, temples, and rich cultural traditions that link the modern community to its royal Kachwaha heritage.
