Khandu

The historic estate of Khandu, a prominent first-class Thikana (feudatory state) of the princely Banswara State, was founded in the late 18^th century when it was granted to Thakur Bakhtawar Singh, the second son of Maharawal Prithvi Singhji of Banswara. Belonging to the noble Sisodia dynasty, the chiefs of Khandu played a pivotal role in the geopolitical landscape of the region, serving as key advisors and military commanders during times of Maratha incursions and the subsequent British protectorate era established in 1818. Over the generations, the Thikana maintained its administrative influence and cultural heritage until the post-independence era, when the state of Banswara integrated into the Indian Union, leading to the eventual abolition of the Jagirdari system under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act of 1952.
