History
Origin and Foundation
The foundation of Kawrada Thikana lies within the expansion of the Rathore clans in the Marwar region. The estate was granted to Rao Meghraj, the son of Rao Devraj of Kawla. The rulers of this estate belong to the Sindhal clan of the Rathore dynasty, which played a crucial role in the consolidation of power in southwestern Rajasthan, particularly around Jalore and Pali.
The Sindhal Rathore Lineage
The Sindhal Rathores trace their descent from Rao Sindhal, one of the illustrious sons of Rao Asthan, the second ruler of the Rathore dynasty in Marwar who ruled during the late 13th century. Known for their fierce independence and military prowess, the Sindhal Rathores established several strongholds and Thikanas across the semi-arid tracts of Marwar, acting as crucial guardians of the borders of the parent state of the Jodhpur (Marwar) State.
British and Princely Period
During the era of the British Raj, Kawrada functioned as a traditional feudal fiefdom (Jagir) under the suzerainty of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. The Thikana maintained localized administrative authority, collected land revenues, and contributed to the military levies of the Marwar State. The Thakurs of Kawrada were recognized for their loyalty to the Marwar Durbar and participated in regional administrative and ceremonial affairs of the state.
Post-Independence and Modern Era
Following India's independence in 1947 and the subsequent integration of princely states, the Jodhpur State merged into the United State of Rajasthan. With the passage of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act in the mid-1950s, the formal feudal privileges and land-revenue collecting rights of the Kawrada Thikana were officially abolished. The descendants of the Thikana transitioned into the democratic fabric of modern India, preserving their rich cultural heritage while engaging in agriculture, business, and public service.
