History

The Kapurpur Zamindari, historically held by the Durgvanshi clan of Rajputs, was a notable estate situated in the Jaunpur region of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Descending from the ancient Durgvanshi lineage that established several strongholds in this fertile belt, the chieftains of Kapurpur maintained local administrative and military control through the medieval period, navigating relations with the Nawabs of Awadh and the Mughal Empire. During the British Raj, the estate was formally recognized under the local revenue settlements of the United Provinces, establishing the Durgvanshi lords as key landholders who contributed to the regional agrarian economy and social structure. This traditional influence and land-ownership pattern continued until the post-independence era, when the passage of the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms Act of 1950 formally dismantled the feudal landholding system, transitionally integrating the Kapurpur estate into the modern democratic framework of independent India.
