History
Jhak Thikana (also historically spelled as Jhag) is a prominent estate ruled by the Vikramadevot Jodha branch of the Rathore dynasty. The lineage of this Thikana traces its origin back to Rao Vikramadev (also known as Vikramaditya), a valiant prince and son of Rao Jodha, the illustrious 15th-century founder of Marwar (Jodhpur). The Vikramadevot Rathores established their stronghold at Jhak, strategically positioned near the borderlands of the Jaipur (Dhundhar) and Ajmer-Merwara regions. Over the centuries, the rulers of Jhak safeguarded their territory and maintained administrative autonomy by navigating the complex geopolitical shifts during the Mughal and Maratha eras. During the British colonial period, the Thikana aligned with regional treaty systems to preserve its traditional rights and landholdings. Following India's independence and the signing of the Instrument of Accession, the estate was formally integrated into the state of Rajasthan, transitioning the traditional rulership into a respected legacy of cultural heritage and local leadership.
