History

The estate was founded in 1765 by a grant of territory by the Maharaja of Patna to his younger son, Kumar Chandra Sekhar Singh Deo, thereby establishing a prominent cadet branch of the Chauhan dynasty in Western Orissa. Throughout its history, the Jarasingha Zamindari functioned as a significant feudal fiefdom under the suzerainty of the Patna State, contributing to the socio-political and cultural landscape of the modern-day Balangir district. During the British Raj, the estate maintained its traditional administrative authority and landholding privileges within the Eastern States Agency. Following India's independence, the political powers of the ruling family ceased when the Patna State merged into the province of Orissa in 1948, and the estate was formally dissolved following the passage of the Orissa Estates Abolition Act of 1951.
