History

Origin and Lineage of Jakhora Thikana

The Jakhora Thikana belongs to the illustrious Sindhal Rathore clan, a prominent cadet branch of the Rathore dynasty of Marwar. This lineage traces its descent back to Rao Sindhal, who was the son of Rao Asthanji, the second ruler of the Rathore dynasty in Marwar, and the grandson of the legendary Rao Siahaji. The Sindhal Rathores carved out their own territories in the rugged southwestern frontiers of Marwar, particularly in the Godwar and Jalore regions. Jakhora was established as a crucial seat of power for the Sindhals, serving both as a defensive stronghold and a center of local governance under the suzerainty of the Kingdom of Marwar (Jodhpur).

Historical Evolution and Modern Era

Throughout the medieval and Mughal periods, the chieftains of Jakhora played an active role in the military campaigns of the Jodhpur State, defending their fiefdom against regional adversaries and external incursions. The Thikana maintained its distinct identity and local authority through centuries of geopolitical shifts, including the British paramountcy era. Following India's independence and the subsequent integration of princely states, the Jagirdari system was abolished under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act of 1952. Today, the descendants of the Jakhora Thikana actively preserve their ancestral heritage, historical monuments, and the rich cultural traditions of the Sindhal Rathores.
