History

Harmara Thikana, historically held by the Parihar (Pratihara) clan of Rajputs, represents an enduring legacy tracing its lineage back to the imperial Gurjara-Pratihara Dynasty that once dominated northern India. Following the historical transition of their ancestral stronghold of Mandore to the Rathores, branches of the Parihar clan dispersed to establish various feudal estates, with Harmara emerging as a prominent Thikana in the strategic Ajmer-Kishangarh region of Rajasthan. Throughout the medieval period, the chieftains of Harmara successfully navigated the complex geopolitical rivalries of Rajputana, maintaining their local autonomy while interacting with larger neighboring powers such as Mewar, Marwar, and Amber. During the British Raj, the Thikana existed under the administrative umbrella of the Rajputana Agency, eventually integrating into the modern state of Rajasthan post-Independence following the abolition of the jagirdari system under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act of 1952.
