History

Origin and Foundation of Hajiwas Thikana

Hajiwas Thikana, located in the historic region of Marwar (modern-day Pali district, Rajasthan), was a prominent vassal estate ruled by the noble Udawat sub-clan of the Rathore dynasty. The Udawat clan traces its lineage back to Rao Uda (Udayasingh), the valiant son of Rao Suja, who ruled the princely state of Marwar from 1492 to 1515. Renowned for their martial prowess and loyalty, the Udawat Rajputs played a pivotal role in the military campaigns of Jodhpur. The estate of Hajiwas was granted as a jagir (fiefdom) to the descendants of Rao Uda in recognition of their military services and strategic leadership, establishing Hajiwas as a respected seat of local authority under the Jodhpur State.

Colonial Era and Post-Independence Transition

During the British Raj, Hajiwas operated under the administrative and suzerain control of the Jodhpur State, which had entered into a subsidiary alliance with the British East India Company. The Thakurs of Hajiwas maintained local law and order, managed agricultural revenues, and contributed to the socio-cultural development of the region through the patronage of local temples and traditional arts. Following India's independence in 1947 and the signing of the Instrument of Accession by the Maharaja of Jodhpur, the estate transitioned into the democratic framework of India. With the implementation of the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act in 1952, the feudal privileges and jagirdari system of Hajiwas were formally abolished, though the family continues to preserve its ancestral heritage and historical legacy in modern Rajasthan.
