History

The estate of Gunera, situated in the historic region of Marwar in Rajasthan, was a prominent jagir (fiefdom) ruled by the Tanwar (Tomar) clan of Rajputs, who trace their ancestry back to the legendary imperial Tomar Dynasty of Delhi. Following the fall of Delhi to the Ghurids, branches of the Tanwar clan migrated westward, eventually entering into feudal alliances with the Rathore rulers of the Princely State of Jodhpur. For generations, the chiefs of Gunera rendered loyal military service (chakri) to the Jodhpur state during various Mughal-era campaigns and local regional conflicts, maintaining their administrative autonomy and estate privileges until the post-independence transition, when the jagirdari system was formally abolished under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act of 1952.
