History
Origin and Foundation
The estate of Guda Deoran Mertiyan, situated in the historic Godwar region of Rajasthan, belongs to the Deora clan of Chauhan Rajputs. The jagir of Guda Deoran was originally granted to the Deora Chauhans by the rulers of the Ghanerao thikana, who were of the Mertia Rathore clan. Due to this prestigious feudal grant and the close administrative alliance with the Ghanerao State, the estate subsequently came to be known as Guda Deoran Mertiyan.
Historical Context and Feudal Relations
Historically, the Godwar tract was a highly contested frontier zone situated between the major kingdoms of Mewar and Marwar. The Thakur of Ghanerao, as one of the principal nobles of the region, granted various estates to loyal Rajput clans to secure the strategic passes of the Aravalli hills. The Deora Chauhans of Guda Deoran served as vital military allies and vassals, defending the borders and ensuring local stability. Their close association with the Mertia Rajputs of Ghanerao heavily influenced the socio-political structure and cultural heritage of the estate.
Post-Independence and Modern Era
Following India's independence in 1947, the estate of Guda Deoran Mertiyan was merged into the newly formed state of Rajasthan. The jagirdari system was formally abolished under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act of 1952. Today, the descendants of the Deora Chauhan jagirdars of Guda Deoran Mertiyan continue to reside in the region, actively preserving their ancestral history, traditional customs, and architectural landmarks.
