History

Origin and Foundation of Daudsar Thikana

Daudsar is a historically significant Thikana of the Tanwar (Tomar) Rajput clan, situated in the erstwhile princely state of Bikaner, in the modern-day Churu district of Rajasthan, India.

The ruling family of Daudsar traces its descent from the imperial Tomar Dynasty of Delhi, which was founded by Maharaja Anangpal Tomar. Following the defeat of the Tomars and the subsequent political shifts in Delhi during the late 12th century, branches of the clan migrated to different regions. A prominent offshoot, known as the Jatu Tanwars (descendants of Rao Jatu), established their influence over the regions of Hissar, Hansi, and the borderlands of Haryana and Rajasthan. Over the centuries, these Tanwar chieftains carved out influential estates, including Daudsar, within the administrative boundaries of the Bikaner State.

Feudal Status and Relations with Bikaner State

Within the feudal hierarchy of Bikaner, the Thikana of Daudsar held an esteemed position. The rulers of Daudsar were recognized as Tazimi Sardars of the first rank by the Bikaner Durbar. This designation bestowed upon them the honor of Tazim, a ceremonial reception where the Maharaja of Bikaner would stand to receive the Thakur of Daudsar upon his arrival in court.

The Tanwars of Daudsar, alongside their kinsmen in neighboring Sidhmukh, were integral to the military strength of Bikaner. They actively participated in the state's military campaigns and administrative councils, maintaining strong loyalties to the ruling Rathore dynasty of Bikaner while retaining local autonomy over their estate.

British Period and Treaty Era

With the signing of the Treaty of 1818 between the British East India Company and Maharaja Surat Singh of Bikaner, the region transitioned into a period of relative stability. During this era, the Thakurs of Daudsar managed their internal administrative affairs, collected revenue, and maintained law and order in their territory. The thikana made notable contributions during the reigns of Maharaja Ganga Singh, particularly in supporting the administrative reforms and military modernization efforts of the Bikaner State Forces during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Post-Independence and Modern Era

Following India's independence in 1947, Bikaner State formally acceded to the Indian Union, and its territories were integrated into the newly formed state of Rajasthan. The historic jagirdari system was officially abolished under the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, 1952.

As a result, the administrative and revenue-collecting powers of the Daudsar Thikana were transitioned to the democratic state government. Despite the dissolution of their feudal privileges, the descendants of the Daudsar ruling family continue to command respect in the region and are actively involved in preserving their ancestral heritage, local culture, and community welfare in Churu district.
