History

Origin and Establishment of the Zamindari

The foundation of the Chirrawah Zamindari is deeply intertwined with the military expansion of the Baghela dynasty of Rewah within the historical Baghelkhand region. Kunwar Jabar Singh, alongside his brother—the renowned warrior Thakur Ranmat Singh of Baderi, who later distinguished himself as a prominent regional leader during the 1857 uprising—spearheaded campaigns to subdue the local Lodhi Malgujars (landlords). Following their victory, the estate of Chirrawah was carved out as an independent fief, solidifying the strategic and political influence of the Baghela clan over the surrounding territories.

Modern Era and Legacy

Throughout the colonial era, the thakurs of the Chirrawah estate retained significant local administrative and revenue-collecting authority under the suzerainty of the Rewa State. Following India's independence and the subsequent integration of princely states, the zamindari system was formally abolished through land reform legislations. Today, the descendants of Thakur Jabar Singh Baghel preserve the rich cultural heritage, historical memories, and martial traditions of their ancestors in the modern state of Madhya Pradesh.
