History
Chandana Thikana is a historically significant estate held by the Idariya branch of the Rathore Rajput dynasty, who trace their lineage to the ruling family of Idar, a major principality closely connected to the parent house of Jodhpur. The Idariya Rathores established their dominance in this frontier region following the strategic southward expansion of the Rathores of Marwar, carrying a heritage that links back to the early Rathore pioneers like Rao Sonagji. Throughout its history, Chandana served as a prominent feudal fiefdom, with its noble thakurs playing vital roles in local governance, defensive military coalitions, and regional administration during the Mughal period and the British Raj. The estate preserved its distinct socio-cultural customs and local sovereignty until its integration into the Indian Union post-independence, as documented in comprehensive regional studies such as those found in the Gazetteer of the Bombay Presidency, which details the historical geography of Mahi Kantha and the surrounding Rajput chiefdoms.
