History
The Thikana of Bolundra, located in the historic Mahi Kantha Agency of Gujarat, represents a prominent branch of the Sanchora Chauhan Rajput clan who trace their lineage back to the royal house of Sanchore. The estate was formally established in 1863 when Thakore Sahib Gajendrasinhji, the son of Rao Udaisinhji of Sanchore, was granted the jagir of Bolundra along with five associated villages by the Maharaja of Idar State. As a petty state under the political supervision of the British Bombay Presidency, Bolundra maintained a distinct administrative identity while remaining a feudatory bound by tribute to the Idar Durbar. The Sanchora Chauhans governed this estate through the colonial era, preserving their local heritage and socio-political influence until the thikana was integrated into the Union of India following independence, eventually becoming a part of the modern Sabarkantha district of Gujarat.
